The regulator
Rehabilitation Council of India
The Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI), a statutory body under the RCI Act, 1992, is the national regulator for audiology and speech-language pathology education and practice. RCI sets the BASLP curriculum and maintains the Central Rehabilitation Register (CRR) — enrolment on which is required in order to practise. The degree is awarded by an affiliating university; RCI provides the professional recognition needed to work as an audiologist or speech-language pathologist.
The Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI), a statutory body under the RCI Act, 1992, sets the national curriculum for B.ASLP and maintains the Central Rehabilitation Register (CRR). The 2024-25 framework incorporates the National Education Policy 2020, the UGC National Credit Framework 2023, the National Medical Commission's Graduate Medical Education Regulations 2023, and the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016.
Registration is the point of the degree
On successful completion, graduates are registered as an Audiologist and Speech-Language Pathologist on the Central Rehabilitation Register. The framework places the duty on the training institution to ensure every student who passes is registered with the Council.
Why this matters more than it sounds
A BASLP degree from an institution whose programme is not RCI-recognised may not lead to Central Rehabilitation Register enrolment, and without CRR enrolment, a graduate cannot legally practise. This is the single most important thing to verify about any audiology and speech-language pathology college, including this one. Ask for it in writing, from every college under consideration.
